Take These Steps Before You Factory Reset Your iPhone

Before you perform a factory reset and permanently erase all of the data on your iPhone, it’s crucial that you follow the following steps:

  • Backup your iPhone data to iCloud.

The first thing you want to do is backup your iPhone to iCloud to ensure that you don’t lose any unsaved data. Here’s how:

  • From the Settings app, select your name and Apple ID at the top of the screen.
  • Go to your Apple ID page.

  • Then, scroll to Backup This iPhone to turn it on. You will see a green background if it's on (note that this may already be turned on if you have your phone set to automatically back up your data.)
  • Finally, select Backup Now to back up all of your information to iCloud.

  • Sign out of all your online accounts.

Steps To Factory Reset Your iPhone

  • Step 1: Go to Settings > General.

You can also factory restore iPhone and all iOS other devices by launching iTunes. First, make sure that your Mac or PC is updated and that you have the latest version of iOS. You may also want to consider making a backup. To restore your device to factory settings: 

  • If your Mac has macOS Catalina or later, open the Finder window. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, and open iTunes
  • Select your device when it appears on your computer screen.
  • Click Restore iPhone or other device.

To hard reset your iPhone, quickly press the volume up button and the volume down button and hold the power button until the device powers off–this usually takes about five seconds. When the Apple logo appears, it confirms that the phone is being restarted.
