The first generation Apple Mac mini G4 features a 1.25GHz (M9686LL/A) or 1.42GHz (M9687LL/A) PowerPC(G4) processor with with 512 on-chip level 2 cache and 256MB of 333MHz DDR SDRAM (max 1GB).

The sleek enclosure measures 6.5 inches square, two inches tall, and weighs 2.9lbs. A 40GB Ultra ATA/100 comes standard with the 1.25GHz model and 80GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive on the 1.42GHz model. A slot loading 8X DVD/CD-RW “Combo Drive or an optional 4X DVD +/- RW/CD-RW SuperDrive is included in both models. Displays are powered by an ATI Radeon 9200 graphics processor (4X AGP) with 32MB of DDR SDRAM.

Connectivity for the Mac mini consists of DVI, two USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 400, and a headphone/line out jack. AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth are available through an optional upgrade. Display, mouse and keyboard are not included with the Mac mini.

Mac mini Late 2005

On September 27, 2005, Apple upgraded the Mac mini G4/1.42 to a 1.5 GHz (M9687LL/B) PowerPC 7447a (G4) processor with 512k on-chip level 2 cache, and 512MB of 333 MHz PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory. The hard drive was upgraded to a faster (5400 RPM) 80.0 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive. A slot-loading 8X DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive was standard in the $599 configuration and a faster dual-layer 8X DVD±RW/CD-RW "SuperDrive" in the $699 configuration.



The ATI Radeon 9200 graphics processor (4X AGP) was upgraded from 32 MB of DDR SDRAM to 64 MB. Connectivity consists of DVI (DVI-to-VGA adapter provided), two USB 2.0, one FireWire, a headphone/line out jack, and AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and an upgraded Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

An Apple Remote can be used with Apple Front Row media organization software to view photos, play songs, play movies, and more.

The Apple Mac mini "Core Duo" 1.66 (MA206LL/A) is powered by a 1.66 GHz Intel "Core Duo" (T2300) processor with 2 MB on-chip level 2 cache, a 667 MHz frontside bus. It comes standard with 512 MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (max 2GB), a 60 GB or an 80 GB (5400 RPM)Serial ATA hard drive, and a slot-loading 8X "Combo drive" or 2.4X double-layer "SuperDrive." Displays are powered by and an Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory.

Connectivity consists of DVI, one Firewire 400, four USB 2.0 ports, combined optical digital audio input/audio line in and combined optical digital audio output/headphone minijacks, 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet, AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

The Apple Mac mini "Core Duo" 1.83 (MA608LL/A) features a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo (T2400) processor with 2 MB on-chip level 2 cache and a 667 MHz frontside bus. It comes standard with 512 MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (max 2GB), a 5400 RPM, 80 GB Serial ATA hard drive, slot-loading 2.4X double-layer "SuperDrive", and an Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory."

The Mid 2007 Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" is available with a 1.83 GHz (T5600) (MB138LL/A) or 2.0GHz (MB139LL/A) Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor with 2 MB (1.83GHz) or 4MB (2.0GHz) on-chip level 2 cache, and a 667 MHz frontside bus. Both come standard with 1 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (max 2GB), a slot-loading 8X single-layer DVD/CD-RW "Combo" drive, and an Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory. The 1.83GHz model comes with a 80 GB (5400RPM) Serial ATA hard drive while the 2.0GHz model features a 120GB (5400RPM) hard drive.

Connectivity includes DVI, one Firewire "400", four USB 2.0 ports, combined "optical digital audio input/audio line in" and combined "optical digital audio output/headphone" minijacks, a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port, and built-in AirPort Extreme (802.11g) with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

The "Core 2 Duo" Mac mini models are essentially the same as the "Core Duo" models that preceded them, but as the name implies, the "Core 2 Duo" systems shipped with faster processors as well as additional RAM. The Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 also has a larger hard drive.



All Mac mini models have the internal components cleverly enclosed in a tiny and elegant 2.9 lb, 6.5” square, 2”” tall case with a built-in speaker and an external power supply. Additionally, all Mac mini systems ship without a display, keyboard, or mouse, but all USB and Bluetooth mice and keyboards are compatible.

The Mac mini Core 2 Duo 2.0’s processor features faster internal architecture using a faster system bus and faster memory as well as improved graphics and dual display support. Connectivity is upgraded as well, with a Mini-DVI and a Mini DisplayPort, 5 USB 2.0 ports and a Firewire 800 port.
